The Jawaharlal Stadium is the largest stadium in India and second largest in the world with a capacity of 130, 000 people. The stadium was constructed to host the event of 9th Asian Games in 1982. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium also houses the headquarter of the Indian Olympic Committee. The opening and closing ceremonies of Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held at this stadium. In addition many sports events such as athletics, lawn bowls and weightlifting will also take place at this massive Stadium in New Delhi. The renovation of the stadium is underway.
Dhyan Chand National Stadium – Hockey
Named after the celebrated former hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, Dhyan Chand National Stadium is a field hockey stadium in New Delhi. It has a capacity to accommodate 25000 spectators.
It is also known for cricket coaching as India’s Ms. Sunita Sharma – Dronacharya Award winner for Cricket, coaches cricket here. The Dhyan Chand National Stadium is the venue for the 2010 Boxing.
Indira Gandhi Arena
Named after former prime minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the Indira Gandhi Arena is the largest indoor sports arena in India and the second-largest in Asia. The arena can accommodate 25000 people. The facility is the venue for 2010 Archery, Cycling, Gymnastics and Wrestling.
Delhi University Sports Complex – Rugby 7s
The Delhi University Sports Complex will be used for 2010 Rugby 7s.
Tyagaraj Sports Complex
The Tyagraj Sports Complex will host 2010 netball. New Indoor Hall for 2010 Games is being constructed at this facility.
Siri Fort Sports Complex
New Indoor Hall is under construction at Sri Fort Sports Complex. The facility will serve as a venue for 2010 Badminton and Squash.
Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range
Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range will host 2010 Shooting during Commonwealth Games.
Talkatora Stadium
Talkatora Stadium’s Indoor Hall will be used for Boxing competition for 2010 games.
SPM Swimming Pool Complex
This facility will be used for 2010 Aquatics event.
RK Khanna Tennis Complex
The facility will serve as a venue for 2010 Tennis.
Yamuna Sports Complex
The 2010 Table Tennis will be held at Yamuna Sports Complex.
