Ladies Union targeting youth for Commonwealth Games 2014

Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) are certain that the only way the nation can make an impact at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is by wooing more youth to take up the sport.

Golf will be making a debut at the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Scotland and ULGU believe Uganda will have a strong team thanks to the golf clinics they organise and facilitate during school holidays. Over 150 junior golfers were passed out on Tuesday at Kitante after a three-week clinic to the delight of ULGU president Rose Musoke Azuba who underscored the importance of their participation.

“The future of golf is on the right track. This is the seventh year we have been holding this clinic and we believe that if you want to become a good golfer you have to start early,” said Musoke.

The clinics that are conducted by the local professionals led by Sadi Atibu boast of having produced quality talents like Morris Ntege, Marko Kostic, Arshavin Kananathan, Desmond Kareeba and Nemanja Kostic among others.

“We have several 10-year olds and we believe in the next four years they will be ready to play for the national junior golf team,” enthused Musoke.

The clinic was partly funded by the home of golf in Scotland Royal and Ancient St. Andrews. Jinja, Lira and Entebbe will hold clinics after the festive season.
