The Commonwealth games village Delhi is planned to be constructed as a low rise medium development on a 40 acre site in the heart of the Delhi with a capacity for 8,500 athletes and officials. Existing and new stadium will be used to conduct the following sports: Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, EAD Events, Hockey, Netball, Rugby 7s, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Bowls, Gymnastics and Weightlifting.

Commonwealth games village Delhi which will house over 8,000 athletes and officials for the Common wealth games in Delhi is also proposed to be setting new standards for green infrastructure.

Commonwealth games village Delhi is developed on the bank of Yamuna River flowing between ITO and Laxmi Nagar. Commonwealth games village Delhi is developed by Emaar MGF Land Limited which is a joint venture between Emaar Properties PJSC (“Emaar”) of Dubai and MGF Development Limited (“MGF”) of India. Commonwealth games village Delhi would have 100% power back up, treated water supply system, CCTV in basement, main entrance and lobby. The complex would be completely Wi-Fi enabled.

The Commonwealth games Delhi 2010would be held between 3 October and 14 October 2010. The event of Commonwealth games Delhi 2010 has been the talk of the town since the time it was declared that Commonwealth games would be held in Delhi. The Organising Committee for Commonwealth games Delhi 2010 came into existence on 10 February 2005, as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act 1860. As per Clause 2(C) of Host City Contract, signed by the Government of India, the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, IOA, and CGF, IOC has delegated the organisation of the Games to the Organising Committee Commonwealth games Delhi 2010.

The Organising Committee for Commonwealth games Delhi 2010 has set a goal for itself to conduct the best Commonwealth Games to date, including the provision of perfect standards of service to athletes, officials and the general public, in close association with its partners. The Organising Committee for Commonwealth games Delhi 2010 hopes to set new benchmarks for other Host nations with regards to urban sustainable development by providing admirable infrastructure and facilities which could be used by the society and the general public for generations to come.

Delhi prepared for common wealth game, nothing left to be addressed: Y S Dadwal Delhi Commissioner of Police

Delhi Commissioner of Police Y S Dadwal today said the city police was ”totally prepared for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and nothing is left to be addressed.

Athlete protection also involved transformational security and securing the places of visits of the participants. This also involved covering the media briefings and visitor management and control at the stadia and hotels, he said.
”Security was also provided during the practice sessions of the teams and the same level of security was extended to the participants as was done for the main event,”
Mr Dadwal said. In addition, elaborate traffic circulation plans were also put in place, he noted and advised the general public to support the police and play a role of responsible citizen at least during the traffic movement. Reacting to some media reports regarding security arrangements for the Games, the Commissioner appealed that ”It is better to publish the report after confirming from us because they go to world press and create apprehensions about security arrangements made here.”

Rs 624 crore for the Commonwealth Games delhi 2010

Finance Minister P Chidambaram has provided Rs 624 crore for the Commonwealth Games, to be held in 2010.

While presenting the Budget proposals for the year 2008-09 in the Lok Sabha today, he said the event was only 947 days away and urged the authorities concerned to adhere to the strict time lines and quality standards.

Cycling Federation of India (CFI) president Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has been nominated as the chairman of the Commonwealth Games Village Committee

The committee will advise the Executive Managment on matters relating to planning and monitoring of the functional area.In a letter to Mr Dhindsa, Chairman of the Organising commitee (OC), Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010, Suresh Kalmadi said, ”the success of the games would, to a large extent depend on the advise and guidance you and your committee renders to the concerned functional areas” ”As chairman you would be in touch with the OC’s Executive Managment,” Kalmadi added.

i m ready & focused to take on Morgan: Aparna Popat

Former world junior runners-up Aparna Popat is all geared to avenge her defeat at the Commonwealth Games to Kally Morgan of England as she opens her campaign in the Olympics badminton competition here on Saturday.

”I am ready to take on Morgan. I am totally focused. I know her game and will like to put up a better show than what I had done last time against her,” Aparna told UNI.

The girl from Bangalore, who got a wild card entry to thOlympics, had lost to Morgan in the final of the Commonwealth Games 1-2.

Coach S M Arif said he was hopeful that Aparna will give a good fight and added ”she is a very determined player and can upset any one on her day.”

Aparna missed three months of match practice due to the ban imposed on her by the International Badminton Federation (IBF) for taking medicine to treat her cold, which contained some banned stimulant.

She also had an injury. ”How she overcomes this is to be seen,” Arif said.

He said, ”I do not doubt Aparna’s capabilities. She is one of the brightest badminton stars of India, but one has to be objective.

She has just returned to world arena and that too in an Olympic after a long lay off, Let us keep our fingers crossed.”
